Now, more than ever, mental health and well-being are of the utmost importance.

The Art Therapy Institute (ATI) has been providing comprehensive art therapy services throughout the Triangle area since 2006, and was established as an independent 501(c)(3) in 2009. Alongside our office-based services, ATI brings community-based programming to the places where people are every day, including schools, hospitals, homes, community centers, health clinics, assisted living facilities, and beyond. ATI now serves clients across the Triangle and Triad areas.

ATI’s mission is to advance the well-being and mental health of diverse North Carolinians through accessible, strengths-based, culturally responsive art therapy; to further support our communities through local events and professional development opportunities; and to contribute to and uphold research, theory, and practice of the creative arts therapies.

The events of the past few months have been unsettling for us all. Like everyone, we are adjusting to this new "normal" and trying to find the best way forward for ATI. One thing remains certain, however: the safety and well-being of our clients has and will always remain our main top priority.

Although our everyday routine has been radically modified, ATI remains committed to our work and to the service of our clients and our community. We have suspended face-to-face therapy sessions at our community-based sites and clinical office, but thanks to technology, we are available to provide services virtually. While Medicaid and certain BCBSNC plans have expanded coverage for some telehealth services during this critical time, all of our community program-based income will be discontinued for the foreseeable future.

Now, more than ever, mental health and well-being are of the utmost importance. And, now, more than ever, we need the help of great friends like you to support our cause! ATI is a critical resource for our community, and we are asking your help to provide critical funds to help it remain so.

If you are able, please consider supporting ATI so that we may continue to be a resource for those who need it most. Your gift will make an immediate impact. For $75 you can sponsor a therapy session. For $25, you can help send art supplies to the home of a client who might not have access to these supplies otherwise. Truly, a gift of any amount will make a difference, as we try to ensure our clients and our staff make it through this difficult period.

Here are the ways we are adapting in this new reality:

  • Providing telementalhealth services to anyone who has access to this type of technology
  • Checking in on ALL clients regardless of their telehealth capabilities
  • Dropping off or mailing art supplies to the homes of our clients
  • Starting online Zoom art classes for community members.
  • Providing professional workshops over Zoom to community members.
  • Upping our social media game on Facebook and Instagram, to make sure our followers have free daily arts and mental health ideas and support.
  • Providing ongoing group therapy over Zoom to our pre-established art therapy groups, like the Arts and Peer Support Group

Although the future is uncertain, we are certain that, with your support, ATI will pull through! We are flexible, we are creative, and we are committed to surviving and thriving during this pandemic.

We are, and will remain, grateful. Stay well, and make art.

Love, the ATI family
